The Verde Native Plant Nursery

The Verde Native Plant Nursery delivers environmental job, training and entrepreneurial opportunities to residents of HCDC's affordable housing and other disadvantaged community members, and promotes future opportunities for disadvantaged communities in Portland's sustainable development efforts. It protects and restores aquatic resources and ecosystems by providing a highly skilled crew to install and maintain wetland restoration, streamside revegetation and stormwater management projects, and provides native plants for these projects.

Native Plants
Verde has completed its Training Greenhouse, the first step toward native plant production and native plant sales. Funded by a grant from Metro's Nature in Neighborhoods and from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, this Greenhouse is an education tool for Nursery Crew members, the place where they will begin learning about propagation of ferns, rushes, sedges and other native plants. These plants will be used on the Hacienda CDC installations as well as other Nursery restoration and stormwater management projects.
