Hire Verde's Services
To hire the Verde Native Plant Nursery, please contact Alan Hipólito, Verde's Executive Director, at 503.980.5260 or at alan@verdenw.org.
The Verde Native Plant Nursery offers the following services, either as lead contractor or through Joint Ventures:
Removal of Invasive Plant Species
Nursery crews can clear land overgrown with Himalayan Blackberry, English Ivy, Reed Canarygrass, Teasel, Climatis, Knotweed, and other invasive plants. We can cut invasives down to the ground, or we can go further - pulling roots so the soil is ready for planting. Methods available include machine cutting, hand cutting and pulling, and herbicide application.
Native Plant Installation
Nursery crews install native plants for use in streamside revegetation, wetland restoration, and stormwater management projects. We can prepare the site (including invasives removal), grade the site, install checkdams, cobblestone and/or landscape fabric, install native plant material, prepare As-Builts, and prepare an Operation & Maintenance Plan. Verde can also work with your design team, establishing a strong connection between project planning and conditions on the ground. This helps keep your project on-budget, incorporates ease of maintenance into project design, and enhances a project's success in recreating the desired natural system.
Native Plant Maintenance
Your organization invested time and money in your bioswale, stormwater planter, or other native plant project. You want it to stay successful, to provide long-term environmental and economic benefits. For example, your swale is infrastructure, and you may have received a discount on your stormwater bill. Now, who is going to take care of it? Nursery crews understand your project - why it was constructed, what environmental benefits it is supposed to provide, and the specific needs of your project's native plant species. They can provide routine project maintenance, including mulching, pruning, hand weeding, herbicide application, replacement of dying or diseased plants and structural repairs.
Commercial Landscape Maintenance
Since 2005, the Nursery has provided commercial landscape maintenance services to Hacienda CDC's affordable housing properties, and now is pleased to offer this service to other affordable housing providers. Nursery crew members perform routine maintenance activities (mowing, edging, pruning, weeding), and also share information with resident communities about watershed issues, environmental assets on their property, and the connection between environmental protection and economic opportunity.
