Verde has moved!!

We have leased 7200sf of office and garage/warehouse space at 6899 NE Columbia Blvd  – roughly 1000sf of office space, roughly 6000sf of garage/warehouse space with four vehicle bays.

This marks an important moment for our organization. It means that all of Verde’s staff and crew members, our outreach programs and our social enterprises, can be housed under one roof. It’s been a long-time-coming…

• It sits between the site for Columbia Biogas, an in-development renewable energy facility, and Colwood Golf Course, the largest piece of privately held open space in Portland. 
• Across the street is the site for Thomas Cully Park, a master-planned, undeveloped 25 acre park site for the most park-deficient neighborhood in Portland, and Verde’s priority.
• Hacienda CDC, our first host and enduring partner, is a few blocks away.
• Native American Youth & Family Center, our home and great friend since 2008, is less than a mile to the west.
• Whitaker Ponds Nature Park and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council, key environmental assets and restoration opportunities in Cully, are less than a mile to the west.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone with whom we are working to build a new model of sustainability, a competitive model that reinterprets sustainability as an anti-poverty strategy, empowering low-income people and people of color to drive environmental resources into their neighborhoods in response to existing community needs, and creating broad, neighborhood-based economic opportunities. Your time and consideration have allowed our organization to grow in its ability to serve.

Further, we would like to extend the deepest gratitude to Rey España, Nicole Maher, Lynn Ward, William Revet, and all the other good folk at the Native American Youth & Family Center for welcoming us into their home these last 3+ years, and for continuing to serve as the host for Verde Nursery’s Outdoor Production Facility. These are gifts without measure.
